Material research is now one of the most strategic fields for developing a form of design capable of addressing today’s environmental challenges. In this context, REBORN is a development project carried out with the support of the Regional Programme of the European Regional Development Fund (ERDF 2021–2027) of the Lombardy Region, “NEXT FASHION”.

The project stems from the collaboration between partners with complementary expertise and aims to develop new biocomposites by valorizing textile waste generated by the fashion industry. Through research, experimentation, and industrial validation processes, materials that would normally be considered production waste are transformed into new high-value resources, contributing to the development of a more circular and sustainable supply chain. Within the project, SLIDE acts as the industrial partner responsible for validating the new biocomposites through rotational moulding technology. The company will leverage its manufacturing know-how to assess the compatibility of these materials with existing industrial processes and contribute to the development of new applications for the fashion sector.

The project will, on the one hand, make it possible to enhance and recover certain types of production waste and, on the other hand, to replace unsustainable plastic materials with next-generation biocomposites for the production of rigid accessories and mannequins.

REBORN is a concrete example of cross-disciplinary collaboration. On one side is the fashion industry, committed to finding solutions that enhance the value of production waste; on the other is industrial design, providing technical expertise and manufacturing processes to transform these materials into new application opportunities.

SLIDE’s participation in REBORN confirms the company’s commitment to continuous research into innovative and sustainable materials. This journey naturally aligns with the vision introduced by SECOND LIFE.
